After killing Clarence for attempting to stop and kill her, Five confronts Nine and confesses that she always wanted to beat him but never could. Twelve interferes, but Five disables his motorbike before stopping the truck carrying Nine. Enraged and desperate, Five leaves to pursue Nine herself. Five's men pursue the police convoy carrying Nine to the press conference, only to find that the truck is a decoy. When Twelve hears from Lisa that Nine has surrendered, he attempts to forget about Sphinx in his shame for betraying Nine, but Lisa convinces him to help Nine like he helped her. Five, who has been hospitalized due to her deteriorating health as a consequence of the Athena Project experiments, learns of Nine's surrender and desperately sets off to try and reach him. Shibazaki visits Shunzo Mamiya, who confesses that he created the Athena Project as part of a plan to revitalize Japanese national morale following the nation's defeat at the end of World War II. He refuses to speak to anyone but Shibazaki, but later relents and issues a demand for a press conference at a specific location at 8:00 p.m., or the atomic bomb prototype would detonate. What drives this series for me is the plot which is woven together so beautifully that there isn’t one second where I feel bored. This episode flew by it was fast, engaging, and high intensity throughout, and I can honestly say it was the best episode of the series to date. After this, Nine will be unable to trust Twelve, so I wonder if their team will split up. This is going to cause an interesting turn of events. Twelve is put in between a rock and a hard place and finally concedes defeat and reveals the location of the bomb oh yea, by the way, Nine was on his way to pick up the bomb and move it and is ambushed by the police. It is obvious that the two have become attached to each other, and it seems as if Lisa is about to confess to Twelve but refrains.Īs the time ticks down, Five gives Twelve an ultimatum: give her the location of the plutonium-which is actually revealed to be a nuclear bomb prototype-or die with Lisa. The nuances of the facial expressions are drawn perfectly that I started to choke up a little-Yoko Kanno’s composition only helped to build the intensity of the scene. The animation, as always, looks stunning, but what really stands out to me is the scene in the ferris wheel where Twelve and Lisa apologize to each other. This abandonment complex is preventing her from staying professional, and it may cause her to make a mistake in the future. In all the flashbacks, we see the three kids running towards a fence, but Five falls behind and is unable to escape. Five seems obsessed with getting revenge because I believe she feels abandoned by the other Numbers as a kid. Twelve, who is attempting to rescue Lisa, finds her tied to a ferris wheel and strapped to a bomb that is set to detonate in several minutes. This story is so tightly knit that everything is connected it is obvious to me that the plot was thought out in advance, and I love that. Mamiya, the victim of the case from fifteen years ago that had Shibazaki removed from the investigation unit.
When the person, who was at the helm of the project, was announced, I had an almost out-of-body experience because I was floored by the revelation: It was Dr. But, Zankyou keeps the scene interesting by using unique camera angles and close-ups that help to show all of the reactions of the characters in exquisite detail. The first half of the episode is one long conversation between the three men, and if not done correctly, this could seem dragged out. Many kids died from the strain the drug put on them. While they are there, they convince him to spill the beans on the Athena Project which was a program implemented for the sole purpose of using an experimental drug to create children with the mental capacity to mimic savants. Shibazaki and Hamura continue their investigation, and using the information they have obtained, they end up at the house of the official who solicited the multiple orphanages. That was (not) a little insensitive Japan, but I digress. Seriously though, an episode of this anime came out on 9/11. Hey guys, it’s time for another episode of 9/11 the anime.
